#WomeninConstructionWeek represents the official “highlight” of women as a viable component of the industry.
It isn’t always glamorous. It isn’t always easy. It’s pretty intimidating at times. You are underestimated. Your abilities are questioned. But I’ve pulled on my PPE, been visible, immersed myself in the industry, went back to “school” for further education, asked plenty questions and learnt from everyone willing to teach me a little something a long the way..
As I always say, “you can’t be what you can’t see”.
So here’s me ‍♀️ doing my thaaaang! I’ve made it my mission to show the industry that I belong.
I’ve gained respect. I’ve been celebrated. I’ve held my head high. I’ve taken a less travelled path, but I’ve paved a path for other women and I’m damn proud of that.
Over the last decade I refused to conform to the stereotypes and I certainly refuse to let anyone stop me from forging the way and leaving the industry better than I found it.
With that being said during women in construction week, I want to celebrate all the bad a*s women out there, currently trailblazing in the construction industry, not forgetting the ones who went before me and for the ones who will come after me. But I musnt forget to thank all the men who have encouraged me, challenged me (as this has definitely been my motivator), inspired me and supported me along the way.
Let’s continue to empower each other, lift each other up and break glass ceilings and stomp out those stereotypes, until it is just the “norm.”
